Seasonal Flowers

Before you start narrowing down the vast variety of flowers to create your beautiful bouquet and flower arrangements for you wedding day, it always best to know which flowers are in season. Seasonal flowers are more readily available and often a bit cheaper in price than if you were set on having something that was difficult to grow at that time of year.

So let’s have a look at few of your best options (and here’s a tip: look on Pinterest to find examples of flower combinations and colours)

All year round

Thankfully, there some flowers which are readily available all year round.

The gerbera daisy, rose, carnation and the orchid are in season throughout the year. These gorgeous perennial flowers can stand alone or be arranged with other seasonal flowers.

Summer

The lily, gardenia, hydrangea and peony are classic summer flowers which can be arranged with something smaller and more delicate like the white stephanotis. These flowers come in a range of colours but combinations of all white also look good.

Autumn

The dahlia, chrysanthemum, aster and scabiosa are your autumn seasonal flowers as well the hydrangea. These flowers come in varieties of blues, purples, reds, deep pinks and yellows adding some warm colour to your autumn wedding.

Spring

The daffodil, peony, lily, tulip and calla lily are your bright and colourful options for spring. But this spring variety also looks affective in simple whites and light colours. You can make so many beautiful and cheerful bouquets and flower arrangement with these pretty flowers.

Winter

Daffodils, camellias, snow berries, sweet peas, tulips, ranunculus are the winter beauties which can brighten up and bring warmth and richness to a winter wedding. Using whites with deep contrasting colours makes for a beautiful winter bouquet.

Ask your florist

Make an appointment to see a florist to get an indication of the availability of certain colours even if the flower is in season. It’s best to do this before you get your heart too set on something. You might have to try a few places first before you can what you want as florists use different suppliers so it availability can vary.

Be organised

If you or a friend choose to do your own flower arrangements to decorate your wedding it’s best to go through a wholesaler.  Flowers are significantly cheaper through a wholesaler and as you will be doing most of the arranging yourself you don’t need to get them from a florist. But don’t just assume that the colour you saw the week earlier which was absolutely perfect will be there when you need it the day before your wedding. It can vary from week to week what the wholesaler will order in. If you need a specific flower and colour ask them beforehand so they can order it for you.
